Deep Worlds is rebuilding Beautiful Light's raid loop: what changes and why

In its 2025 review, Deep Worlds admitted Ground Zero's raid had become too scripted, laid out the old loop step by step, and committed to a rework built on more choices and more places to go.

The most important piece of Beautiful Light development news this year is not a trailer. In its year in review post on Steam, published on 14 January 2026, Deep Worlds said the core raid on its first map had a real problem, and that fixing it would be a major focus before launch.

The loop players had been testing

The studio described the raid on Ground Zero, as it stood in late 2025, as a fixed sequence:

  • Spawn, then search for a laptop
  • Print a keycard from it
  • Reach the bunker and get inside
  • Turn the power back on
  • Solve the puzzle in the Artifact Core room
  • Leave the bunker and hold the extraction point until the helicopter arrives

Why Deep Worlds called it "on rails"

The studio was clear that the foundations held up in playtests: PvP, movement, atmosphere and immersion all tested well. The problem was the structure. Over time the loop felt repetitive, because the only things that changed from one raid to the next were where you spawned and where the fights broke out. The routes players took and the timing of their moves did not really change how a raid played out.

That is a significant admission for an extraction shooter, a genre that lives on unpredictability.

What the rework is meant to add

Deep Worlds listed three goals for the new version of the raid:

  • More meaningful choices during a raid
  • More locations to explore
  • A richer overall experience

The decision came directly from feedback gathered in the playtests run at the end of 2025. The studio said it wants to validate the new version through playtests of growing size during 2026.

The first visible result: Ground Zero is being restructured

Six weeks later, Dev Update #8 (26 February 2026) showed the rework reaching the map itself. Ground Zero is gaining several new points of interest and a long list of terrain changes, and the same update showed door breaching, which Deep Worlds described as a mechanic for the new game mode.

The studio also explained why it was not saying more: it prefers to get the new mechanics through internal validation before making them public.

What this means for December

The raid you may have watched in 2025 playtest footage is very likely not the raid that ships. Deep Worlds has described the direction of the new loop, but it has not published the new sequence step by step, and it may still change after the next round of playtests.

What has not changed is the frame around it: 24 players, six squads of three operators against six anomalies, and an Early Access launch in December 2026. The release date page tracks the launch window, and the anomalies guide covers the monster side of the raid.
